A socio-political group, South West Coalition For Democracy has cautioned that any attempt to witch hunt or harass Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, Chief Whip of the Senate over 2023 political permutations will be counterproductive.
The group while speaking with ABN TV on Tuesday through its National Publicity Secretary, Fatai Omoluabi Adedayo on plans to re-arraign the former Abia governor over corruption allegation, further blamed Justice Mohammed Idris of Federal High Court for Kalu’s protracted legal battle.
Mr. Adedayo said Sen. Kalu’s re-arraignment is not unconnected with efforts to malign him to thwart his political ambition ahead of 2023 general election.
While stating that Kalu has not openly declared interest to contest the 2023 Presidential election, Mr. Adedayo called on those behind the Senate Chief Whip’s ordeal to pursue their political ambitions and leave him alone.
He expressed surprise that despite the sacrifices Sen. Kalu has made for the APC, the ruling party, he is unjustifiably harassed.
Recall that Sen. Kalu had in 2019 been convicted by Federal High Court in Lagos over corruption allegations during his stay in office as Abia governor.
The conviction could however not stand as the Supreme Court in 2020 annulled it, saying the process that led to the conviction was faulty.
