The Vice – Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) ,Awka Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone on Thursday afternoon received in the Southeastern Ivory Tower the Chief Whip of the Senate and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Recall that this newspaper reported that Senator Kalu had earlier in the day paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Anambra state, Gov Obiano who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke received Senator Kalu and his entourage at exactly 1:10 PM and proceeded for a private meeting.
Shortly after the meeting Senator Orji Kalu headed to the university with his entourage; Kalu’s presence elicited joy amongst staff and students of the University who were on ground to welcome him.
Receiving The Chief Whip in his office in his welcome speech the VC of the institution appreciated Senator Kalu for his August visit to the university, Prof. Charles briefly outlined the academic and infrastructural achievements of the institution.

In his response Senator Kalu acknowledged the achievements of the Vice Chancellor of the University, in his speech Kalu assured Prof. Charles of the Senate’s willingness to assist the University in area of legislation to improve the institution.
He said “Since you took over from the University and what I have seen so far you are changing the face of the University and I encourage you to continue doing that.
“If you have any difficulties any area such as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) or any legislative input you can always read out to me and I will ensure that we do our best to intervene.
“They say Anambra have 50% of me and I always want to associate myself ; if you have any challenge. Even if it means you come and give the students a mentorship programme.
“I am impressed with your work in the university to show that young people have a lot of potential. I must note that as stakeholders in society we must do our best to uplift the less privileged in the society because that is in our nature.
We are in the Era raising champions regardless age, gender , religion or tribe. From what I see your office is well organized and I am impressed by what you have in the offices in the institution. The Vice Chancellor has shown that he is serious with his job . Not everyone has the time to inspect the work of infrastructure; but the VC takes it upon himself to personally inspect the facilities in the university so I want to congratulate you.
