2023 Presidency: Tinubu Considered Regional Politician, An Ethnic Bigot
Tinubu has money, he has structures and loyalists, but he is also seen by many as a regional politician, not a national politician.
Southeast (Igbo) will never support him nor vote for him especially now that they feel it’s their turn to produce the next president.
South south too won’t support him because south south is PDP and PDP is south south.
As for his region, he may not get more than 50 percent of their votes, they don’t put all of their eggs in one basket. They are with you and they are not with you because they are with your opponent and they are not with him.
As for the north, northwest may not fully support him because they naturally don’t trust Yoruba people.
Tinubu is seen by many as a man “playing God”, he wants everyone to bow to him, and that’s exactly what the Bukola Sarakis, Rotimi Ameachis, Rotimi Akeredelus, Atiku Bagudus, Yahaya Bello, Elrufai and many others won’t do.
Remember how they forced oshiomole out of his position, remember how they supported PDP candidate against their own APC candidate in Edo election just to humiliate Tinubu. And they had their way. They prefer their party lose than allow Tinubu’s anointed candidate win.
Remember how some APC bigwigs were ready to pull the roof down on everyone rather than allow Tinubu have his way during the crisis that almost brought APC to it’s knees.
Tinubu has money and as it stands, he has better chances of winning the APC primaries than anyone else, but he will face a lot of resistance from governors and bigwigs who will never accept or agree to be his boys. The best they can agree on is to be his associates… Moreover, his age and health status is a big issue too.
Even if they find a way to resolve and support Tinubu, he will have serious problem choosing a running mate. If he picks a northern Muslim, it will be Muslim-Muslim ticket, a very big minus for him because a lot of christians won’t vote for him because they are not properly represented. If he picks a northern christian or someone from the north central or a minority group, he might lose the support of northwest, and no smart politician would want to lose Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kebbi, Sokoto and even Bauchi by extension. And because Tinubu’s wife is a Christian, picking a Christian as his running mate automatically translate to having a president and a vice president who might not protect the interest of Muslims, just like a Muslim-muslim ticked that christians will think that the presidency won’t protect their interest.
And politics is about interest. Perception matters a lot in politics. Especially our politics that sentiment plays a major role in our decision to choose leaders.
