Breaking !!! 2023 Presidency: Ex-Nigerian President, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar in closed door meeting with Orji Kalu
Nigeria’s former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar on Saturday night received the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in his private residence in Abuja.
Reports gathered that both leaders held the meeting during the nocturnal hour to avoid the members of the press, the former Nigerian President received the Senate chief whip and the highest elected political office holder from the southeast at about 9:45pm.
According to competent sources, Senator Kalu decked in purple coloured native attire arrived Abubakar’s residence and was ushered to meet the former Military general who was already waiting to receive Kalu, both visibly excited to sight each other, they made pleasantries and proceeded immediately to engage in private discussions.
Though the details of the meeting were not revealed, there are strong indications that it may not be unconnected with the 2023 Presidential elections. As clamour for power shift to the Southeast region gathers momentum, Senator Kalu on his part had declared his intention and readiness to run for the number position in the country provided his party the ruling All Progressive’s Congress zones the ticket to the Southeast region.
Records reveal that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu had in the past years visited the former Military head of state at his Minna , Niger state residence, including former President Ibrahim Babangida.
Gen Abdulsalami is often regarded as a potent force in the Nigerian Political sphere, the retired Nigerian Army general served as the de facto President of Nigeria from 1998 to 1999.He was also Chief of Defence Staff between 1993 and 1998. He succeeded General Sani Abacha upon his death.
Orji Kalu is said to be heavily backed by Northern stakeholders as well as groups to succeed President Buhari in 2023.
Kalu who made the announcement through his verified Facebook page revealed that his discussion with the former president centered on national issues and peaceful coexistence of Nigeria.
He wrote, “ Tonight, I paid a visit to the former President of Nigeria, General Abdulsalami Abubakar to greet him for the new year . We also discussed major national affairs and the peaceful coexistence of our nation.”
