33 ESUCOM graduands inducted into MDCN
ENUGU—–The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, on Friday, inducted 33 graduands of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, College of Medicine, ESUCOM, into the medical profession.
While administering the oath of the profession on the graduands at the ESUCOM Auditorium in Enugu, the Registrar of MDCN, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, urged them to obey the rules and regulations of MDCN, and all other laws that are made for the control of the profession to avoid falling into legal pitfalls which may ruin their careers.
He equally urged them to give the lives of their patients utmost consideration and to practice the medical profession with conscience and dignity.
Dr Sanusi bemoaned the spate of reports on Doctors misconduct, and cautioned the graduands to serve humanity with utmost dedication while maintaining the nobility of the profession.
While congratulating the 11th set, Batch B graduands of the College, the Vice Chancellor of ESUT, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, encouraged them to be good ambassadors of the Institution by eschewing acts capable of demeaning the image of their alma mater.
Prof. Okolie noted that ESUT Management recently recruited 73 staff to boost staff strength and efficient service delivery in ESUCOM, just as he had made prompt payment of staff salaries a matter of priority despite the lean resources of the University.
The VC urged the graduands to always remember coming back to add value to ESUT through execution of developmental projects.
In his welcome address,the Provost of the College, Prof. Frank Ezugwu, who thanked the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and the management team of ESUT for their continued support to the College, said ” we are pleased that the College is turning out graduates that are internationally-competitive. Not minding that we are restricted to small quota here, we still manage to produce Doctors that are sellable globally.”
He equally lauded the staff of the College for their devotion and commitment to duties.
He reminded the graduands that medical profession is a call to service and enjoined them to be progressive-minded by enrolling into higher academic programmes.
Earlier, the induction Talk Lecturer, Dr. Ikenna Ndu, told the graduands that “the prestige and honour as a medical doctor comes with sacrifice.”
He cautioned them to apply caution in their dealings with patients and to pay attention to courtesy and their mental health.
The induction ceremony was graced by other principal officers of ESUT, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chike Nwoha; the ESUT Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu; and the University Bursar, Dr. Augustine Ojeh.
